SUMMARY:Artist Reception: James Kimak
DESCRIPTION:James Kimak: Painting Light\nArtist Statement\nFrom my start as an inker at Marvel Comics to work as a newspaper designer and illustrator\, to an Art Director in the early years of interactive media at NBC and CNBC\, to the creator/designer of murals for large health and education institutions\, I have always been active as an exhibiting fine artist. \nIn 2019\, I shifted from my previous focus on pastels to larger pieces in acrylic on canvas. From a gallery statement\, “Through the use of vibrant hues and strong light/shadow contrasts\, he skillfully captures the interplay between light and form in his paintings. Drawing inspiration from such renowned artists as Edward Hopper\, Degas\, and Fairfield Porter\, among others\, his works suggest a hint of abstraction along with its explicit realism.  ‘Something catches my eye when I’m not actively seeking a subject. Often\, these subjects have a strong structural shape at their core.’ While his paintings are based on specific locations that evoke a distinct sense of place\, he also brings his own imagination into the compositions\, often omitting or altering details to align with his vision.” \nSince 2005\, I have also used my graphic and photography skills—often including images of my fine art—in the creation of narrative murals for such clients as Columbia University\, Montefiore Hospital\, NYU Langone Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospitals\, among others. \nI earned my bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Bridgeport. I have participated in numerous exhibitions in galleries in New York and New England\, and in museums\, including Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center\, the Parrish Art Museum\, and the American Museum of Illustration\, winning a number of awards\, including Gold Medals\, along the way. My newest honor is the inclusion of a projected image of my painting\, Man with Tattoo\, Havana\, in a dance and choral stage performance\, PORTRAITS\, at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center (6/2024) \nFollowing my first solo show at the Edward Hopper House in 1993\, I became a founding member of the Flywheel Gallery in Piermont\, NY. Afterwards\, I was represented by the Allen Sheppard Gallery in New York City\, where I held several solo shows. I have also shown at Carrie Haddad in Hudson\, NY\, Edgewater Gallery in Middlebury\, VT\, the Jessie Edwards Gallery on Block Island\, RI\, Ned Kelly & Company in Tappan\, NY and Perry Lawson Fine Art in Nyack\, NY. \nI live and work in Rockland County\, NY. \nFollow James on Instagram: @kimakart \nVisit James’ website: www.jameskimakfineart.com

SUMMARY:Artist Exhibition: Norman Galinsky and Alberto Reyes
DESCRIPTION:Experience the works of Norman Galinsky and Alberto Reyes. On display for purchase in the Union Arts Center from January 9th to April 9th. Make sure to mark your calendars\, you do not want to miss these ethereal works. \nGallery 1: Norman Galinsky\nNorman Galinsky’s abstract geometric art has been inspired and informed by his background in science and engineering\, and his ongoing interest and study of meditative and energy healing disciplines and consciousness explorations. \nHis work represents the intimate relationship between the energetic and quantum nature of reality and the spiritual essence embodied by art. He believes that art expression is energy itself –an aspect of what the Chinese term Qi\, the universal life energy. The images depict a “stillness in motion”\, drawing the viewer into a meditative dialog with the present moment. His over 30 year practice and teaching of Chinese martial arts\, Tai Ji Quan and qigong exercises\, as well as study of other energetic healing disciplines have been foundational in helping him generate\, cultivate\, and utilize energy patterns that often find their way into his images. Additionally\, his earlier career and professional background in chemical engineering was instrumental in combining his use of mathematics with “permutational” and intuitive approaches to making art. His understanding and study of sacred geometry became a roadmap to explore how energy\, science\, and esthetics can be related. \nwww.normangalinsky.com \nGallery 2: Alberto Hernandez Reyes\nAlberto Hernandez Reyes (b. Havana\, 1976) \nBehind the appearance of natural shapes\, hidden behind the beauty of the landscape is the living spirit of the world (Anima Mundi). That invisible\, but intuited\, soul manifests itself in multiple signs. A sustained contemplation makes us listen to the primal music that comes from the forest\, the mist in the morning transforms the old road into an unknown country\, a forgotten language makes us understand the underlying codes in the waves of the sea. So many messages\, many of which we are not conscious. \nThrough my paintings I have tried to explore the visuality of this ethereal dimension: The elements of Nature are recognizable on the surface of the canvas but\, as the viewer will see\, the representation patterns go beyond pure mimesis. It is about exploring and materializing that mystical world through atmospheres full of mystery\, giving trees almost human emotions\, concentrating\, or limiting color in an ascetic\, monochromatic range\, evoking silence. \nThe use of light is essential. The spaces addressed are practically surreal scenarios that gravitate between the perception of the birth of Creation and apocalyptic shadows. And light is capable here of tipping the balance towards one concept or another. \nLet this be an invitation to discover another physiognomy of the landscape through the inner vision of the artist. \nalbertohreyes.com

SUMMARY:Peripheral Visions
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Meet the Artist // Sunday\, March 20th\, 12 PM – 3 PM | More Info \nThrough Monday May 2nd \n\nMacrophotography by Laure Leber  \n“This is what I see when I’m relaxing\, looking at the light dancing\, looking deeply\, going inward… finding the small things that inspire a stillness within. My current exploration into macro photography focuses on finding the extraordinary in the ordinary\, of capturing moments that sparkle with light\, life and hope.” –Laure A. Leber\, 2022 \n \n \n \n \nLaure A. Leber is a documentary photographer whose work explores the visual sociology of subcultures\, most notably capturing the lives of empowered women and social rituals that are often hidden and unavailable to non-participants.  \nWorking in New York for the past 30 years\, Leber’s raw photographs include an early look at the sport of women’s boxing; behind the scenes portraits of the seminal New York performance art band “The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black”; intimate glimpses at performers of the Neo-Burlesque movement; two generations of the Native American Sunrise Ceremony Na’ii’ee\, a female coming of age ritual; and insights into the private world of Coney Island Sideshow’s ‘natural born’- performers empowered through overcoming their physical disabilities.  \nIn response to the global pandemic\, during a time of universal upheaval and transition\, Laure takes a departure from her typical journalistic style and journeys into macro photography and a study of botany as a form of meditation and centering\, culminating in this collection of photos. Peripheral Visions is not simply a celebration of beauty for beauty’s sake. It’s a reflection of the healing quality of color\, and the evolving understanding of floral life as a window into the deeper interconnection of all living things. \nVisit Laure’s Website: laureleberphoto.com

SUMMARY:Floral Expressions… Layered & Gilded Photography By Laurie Peek
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nThrough Extended Through January 16\, 2023 \n\nStatement \n“My ongoing In Lieu of Flowers series of multi-layered photographs of floral elements is dedicated to my son Jackson Turner (1983-2020) and other individuals I’ve known whose funerals I could not attend. And\, this work is for all those who’ve suffered the loss of a loved one\, especially in these covid times. \nWith this memorializing project—presenting the flowers I was not able to give—I draw on my long-time fascination with layers\, abstraction\, and plants\, as well as my practice of East Asian brush painting. Somehow they all work together. \nThe images themselves are digital composite\, pigment photographs printed on translucent vellum. Hand-applying gold or gold/silver metallic-leaf gilding to the backs of the pigment prints creates a shimmering glow evocative of sacred art. Varnishing each print three different times\, painting on the adhesive\, and methodically rubbing the gilding onto the vellum\, hearkens back to the slow developing and handling of prints made from film negatives in the darkroom and\, for me\, establishes a strong\, physical connection to the work.” \nImmersion in creating this “tribute” series\, with its acknowledgement of past significant relationships and the grief of losing my child\, has been healing and is meant to heal others.”–L.P. \n  \nBIO \nWith an MFA in Photography from SUNY Buffalo/Visual Studies Workshop\, Tappan\, NY resident Laurie Peek has been a photo librarian\, photography educator\, photojournalist\, PR photographer and art gallery administrator. For the past decade Peek has been exhibiting her photography widely across the US and internationally.  \n  \nFor inquiries\, please email laurie@lauriepeek.com \nVisit Laurie’s website: lauriepeek.com \nInstagram: @lauriepeek \n  \n \n  \n  \n \n  \nSolo shows include: \nFlowers Everywhere\, Davis-Orton Gallery\, Hudson\, NY \nFlow\, Lagstein Gallery\, Nyack\, NY \nCar Parts: Metallic Transports\, Union Arts Center\, Sparkill\, NY \nRockland Reverso\, Rockland Center for the Arts\, West Nyack\, NY. \n  \nAccolades \nIn 2022 Peek was awarded “International Garden Photographer of the Year\, 3rd Place \nAbstract Views\,” Kew Gardens\, London\, UK\, and for the last five years she has been \njuried into the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers exhibition \nat the FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona\, Spain.

SUMMARY:Architectural Abstracts By Erin Karp
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nThrough Saturday December 31\, 2022 \n\nFine Art Photography by Erin Karp \n \nErin Karp is a fine art photographer residing in NJ. Her love of photography began with a \nPentax Asahi in the early 1990s & grew with her education at William Paterson University \n& the University of Sevilla in Spain. Her passion for printing also bloomed as she spent \ncountless\, peaceful hours in the darkroom. Though she reluctantly transitioned to digital \nphotography in 2009\, while studying at the International Center of Photography in NYC\, \nshe treats her DSLR the same as her Pentax: she shoots manually in natural light & still \nmakes her own prints. Erin’s work has been included in juried exhibitions in NYC\, CA\, NJ\, \nCT\, CO\, & RI\, including at Denise Bibro Fine Art (NYC)\, The Painting Center (NYC)\, \nSalmagundi Club (NYC)\, Ceres Gallery (NYC)\, Greenwich Art Society (CT)\, & Providence \nArt Club (RI). Her work is collected privately throughout the USA & is in corporate \ncollections in NYC. \nHaving grown up the daughter of an abstract oil painter & a fashion designer\, Erin \ninevitably developed a distinct way of seeing the world. Living & traveling throughout \nEurope helped to hone her photographic style & focus. Fascinated by the details in \narchitecture and nature\, she sees & shoots the world in an abstract & graphical way\, often \nleading viewers to confuse her work for paintings. Erin’s photography brings to the viewer \na unique vision of her understanding of light\, shadow\, & shape\, an abstract study of details \nthat often go unnoticed. \nFor inquiries\, contact Erin: erinmkarp@gmail.com or text 973-714-8841 \nwww.erinmkarp.com \nIG: @KarpitecturalAbstracts \n“Echoes of Denver” \n  \n  “Jondo\, Sevilla” \n  \n  “Il Duomo Abstract” \nEXHIBITIONS:\n∙ Ceres Gallery\, NYC – Feb. 2023 – ASCA Group Exhibition\, The Final Show\n∙ D’art Gallery\, CO – Sept. 1-25\, 2022 – Selected for inclusion in Spot on #3; Juror: Doug Kacena\, owner of K\nContemporary gallery; member of DADA; Contemporary Collections Committee at Denver Art Museum\n∙ Union Arts Center\, NY – Sept. 2022 – Jan. 2023 – SOLO EXHIBITION in main gallery\n∙ International Photography Awards (ipa) OneShot COLOR competition – July 2022 – My photo\, Azul Violeta\,\nSevilla awarded “Official Selection/Honorable Mention” in Abstract category of global photo competition\n∙ The Painting Center\, NYC – Jul. – Aug. 2022 – Selected for inclusion in juried exhibit\, Break of Day\, Edge of\nNight; Curators: Steven Cabral\, Lisa Petker Mintz\, & Christopher Schade\n∙ Carriage Barn Arts Center\, CT – April – May 2022 – Selected for inclusion in Spectrum Contemporary Art\nExhibit; Juror: James Barron (jamesbarronart.com)\n∙ Greenwich Art Society\, CT – April – May 2022 – Selected for inclusion in 105th Annual Bendheim Exhibit; Juror:\nBrinda Kumar\, Metropolitan Museum of Art Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art – *Awarded\nGerquest/G.A.S. SUMMARY:The Valley Of Enchantment… Hudson River – Paintings By Radu Serban
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Artists’ Reception Sunday July 24\, 2022 // 12 PM – 3 PM \nThrough May 3rd thru August 28th \n\nRadu Serban\, Ph.D\, Emeritus AIA \n \nRadu Serban was born in 1943 in Bucharest\, Romania\, into a family of artists. His art and architectural activity spans three continents\, capitalizing on both his European background and training coupled with more than five decades of creative experience. Formally educated as an architect\, his complex personality and native gifts sharpened through arduous training and application allowing him to intertwine his carrier as an architect and apply intense artistic time resulting as an acclaimed painter. To fulfill his creative aspirations\, together with family\, in 1974 he chose to work for a while in Northern Africa-Algeria\, then moved to Paris -France. In 1982 he settled in New York. He discovered the Hudson River Valley. Radu was fascinated by and chose it as a “locus”\, settling there for his art exploration and family comfort. \n \nSerban’s artistic talents concentrated upon the diversity of subjects found in the Valley and he started to nurture a real and deep admiration of its history\, river  communities and enchanting landscapes. The Rockefeller Park Preserve’s natural landmark offered him idyllic geographic resources. \nA realist artist\, Radu’s” “tableaux” are to seek new ways to evolve his favored “oils” medium in significant applications with palette knives to yield unique textures and beautiful life-like colors in new postimpressionistic images. \nA demand for his images of New York City and countryside locations are in contrast with his sophisticated cityscapes of London\, Paris and other European destinations thus appealing to collectors world-wide. Radu’s art was shown in Manhattan’s Soho and Roosevelt Island\, in Washington D.C.\, London\, Bucharest\, Pleasantville\, Piermont\, Tappan\, Nyack\, Sparkill. \n \nAs an architect\, before opening his own practice in partnership with two other New York architects\, Radu Serban’s experience included projects at few renowned New York firms. He first worked with WBTL and DBA for colleges (Harvard\, UMAB\, Baruch). As a principal with ILeyvaA he was involved in prestigious New York landmark projects like Time Warner at Columbus Circle\, Random House-Park Imperial on Broadway (JV w/SOM)\, Beekman Tower\, Atlantic Yards (JV w/FOGehryA)\, Astor Place (JV w/GSA)\, luxury Residences (JV w/RAMSternA). As an associate partner-Director of International Projects for CKondylisP he worked for clients in Romania\, Russia\, Ukraine\, Belarus\, Check Republic\, Bulgaria\, Kazakhstan\, and Philippines. \nRadu Serban earned both his Architecture and Urban Planning Diploma and Ph.D. degrees from “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest\, Romania and attended Courses in Italian Art and Architecture at The University for the Foreigners in Perugia\, Italy. In the early ‘80s\, as in a real workshop\, Radu’s Paris experience enriched his artistic and architectural background. \n \nHe received the Design Award of the Masonry Institute of Maryland and awards from the Romanian Union of Architects\, as well as painting awards from different art organizations. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the International Architectural Preservation Foundation “Pro Patrimonio”. Radu Serban has his studio in Tappan\, close to Hudson River and not far from Manhattan\, oscillating in-between these two environments which became indispensable to his life-style. SUMMARY:River Valley Dreams – Photographs By Kate Buggeln
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Artists’ Reception\, Sunday\, July 24\, 2022 | More Info \nThrough May 3rd thru August 28th 2022 \n\n“I stepped to the view-finder side of the camera following a long career in retail and fashion.” \n \nSelf Portrait \n\nWhether the work is figurative or abstract\, my intent is to capture a mood and create a sense of mystery about the subject. The result can be dream-like or a puzzle to figure out. Imitating the painters and potters I grew up with\, I use a highly physical creative process. Much of my abstract images are created by deliberate camera movements at low light times of day and night with my camera settings at play. But when the weather\, water or place are just right\, I am drawn to their figurative possibilities. Self-taught in business\, I took the same approach with the camera. My unstudied approach\, and impatience with post-production editing has created an instinctual result. For better or worse\, it is my own.\nI live in the magnificent Hudson River Valley\, and the towns and natural places it nurtures are an inspirational well\, serving me as they have other artists for many generations. The valley is ever in motion\, its impermanence a daily\, provocative constant to get out of bed\, grab the camera and shoot. \nThe camera frame quiets the internal noise of this rollercoaster life. I hope my images bring the same hush to the viewer. \nMy work is also on view at Piermont’s Flywheel Gallery and at katebuggelnphotography.com. You can follow my creative work and life on IG @katebuggeln.”–Kate Buggeln \n \nSummer \n\n  \n \nSticky Day \n\n \nGateway \n  \n \nFoggy Head

SUMMARY:Publishing A Book – A Talk With Author/Illustrator Betsy Franco-Feeney
DESCRIPTION:A discussion on book publishing ~ Bring your questions for Betsy who has published a dozen children’s books both independently and with traditional houses. \nJoin author/illustrator Betsy Franco-Feeney and freelance science writer/former television journalist Marie DeNoia Aronsohn as they talk book publishing… both independently and with traditional houses. Her career as a commercial artist began over 40 years ago after training at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) where she was awarded the top honor in Illustration. \nBetsy is celebrating the release of her 12th picture book\, Jewels of the Sea… The Hunt for Floating Treasure which was just chosen as one of Kirkus Magazine’s “Great Indie Books Worth Discovering”. Kirkus is widely known as “the world’s toughest book critics“. You can read their full review of Jewels of the Sea HERE. \nBetsy began illustrating books for traditional publishing houses. Years later\, she created her own publishing company\, Puddle Jump Press. Two of her books are collaborations with award winning singer/songwriter Christine Lavin. Amoeba Hop garnered a “Best Books” award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The book that followed\, Hole in the Bottom of the Sea\, received an outstanding review: “if the fate of the planet is in the hands of our children\, then reading them books like this might be a wise idea.”–Kirkus Reviews \nBetsy grew up and still lives in the beautiful Hudson River Valley just north of New York City. Her career has included editorial and book illustration\, commercial and fine art photography\, logo and graphic design\, theater set design and painting\, and more recently\, art curating. Expect a lively conversation where they will welcome questions from the audience. Those attending will receive a link to Betsy’s guide to book publishing. \nThe art center’s large space with high ceilings allow for good ventilation and socially-distanced seating. Although not mandated\, vaccination or a negative COVID test are appreciated. \nLight refreshments will be served. \nVisit her website betsyfrancofeeney.com

DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Sunday November 28th\, 12:00PM-3:00PM | More Info \nThrough Monday\, January 31\, 2022 in Gallery Two \n\nEileen Karakashian \nEileen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1994 from the\nSchool of Visual Arts in New York City\, majoring in Advertising Design.\nSince graduation she was an art director in advertising\, producing both\nnational TV and print campaigns. Her work has been featured in Adweek\nand Advertising Age magazine. She continued her fine art studies at the Art\nStudents League in NYC\, concentrating on painting\, design\, color\, composition\nand collage. \nToday\, Karakashian makes paintings and mixed media artworks. By\nemphasizing aesthetics\, Eileen tries to develop forms that do not follow logical\ncriteria\, but are based only on subjective associations and formal parallels\,\nwhich incite the viewer to make new personal associations. Her paintings are\nbased on formal associations which open a unique poetic vein. Multilayered\nimages arise in which the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality\nis questioned. By rejecting an objective truth and global cultural narratives\, she\ncreates with daily\, recognizable elements\, an unprecedented situation in which\nthe viewer is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has\nto reconsider his biased position. \nColor and texture are the foundations to my paintings. The mixed media and\nacrylic paintings I create all usually start with a color idea and then evolve into a\ncomposition in which color and texture are the primary subjects. By applying\nabstraction\, I create intense personal moments created by means of rules and\nomissions\, acceptance and refusal. The results are deconstructed to the extent\nthat meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. – E.K. \n \nFor inquiries\, contact Eileen at eileen@ekarakashian.com \nVisit Eileen’s Website: Ekarakashian.com \nInstagram Profile: E.Karakashian.Art

SUMMARY:Perspectives: The Photography Of Mitch Eiss
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Sunday\, November 28th\, 12:00PM-3:00PM | More Info \nThrough Monday\, January 31\, 2022 \n\nThe question is not what you look at\, but what you see. – Henry David Thoreau\, 1851  \nThe Photography of Mitch Eiss \nI got my first film camera in the early 1960’s – a Kodak Brownie with a flash bulb – and that was the beginning of a life-long passion for capturing moments and people. As my interest in drawing and photography grew\, I entered college as an art major but turbulent times and my interest in social issues led me to a career in mental health. Then life and responsibility eventually turned me to a corporate career. My one constant throughout was my love for art and photography. \nI am now happily devoting my time to making and sharing photographs. (Oh\, how proud my father would be.) I have shot major events and small music club venues\, but primarily\, ‘I walk the streets.’ Each of us can look at an object\, a person or scene\, and yet\, we all see\, feel and react differently. \nThis show\, “Perspectives” is representative of what and how I see – my mind’s eye – and perhaps tells you a little something about me and what I find naturally beautiful. \nI feel extremely fortunate to be able to share these images with you in this wonderful setting. – M.E \n \nwww.mitcheiss.photography \n\n \nwww.mitcheiss.photography \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFor inquiries\, please contact mitch@mitcheiss.photography. \nVisit Mitch’s website: www.mitcheiss.photography \nInstagram Profile: https://www.instagram.com/mitcheiss/

SUMMARY:Contemporary Realism – Paintings By James Kimak
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Sunday\, April 25\, 2021\, 12 PM – 3 PM | More Info \nThrough July 2021 \n\n“As a multidisciplinary artist working in both fine and graphic arts\, I have been fortunate to live a ‘creative life’ since graduating with a BS in Fine Art from the University of Bridgeport in 1976. While working in creative design and illustration positions including The New Haven Register\, DC and Marvel Comics\, NBC and CNBC\, I have kept up my work in painting and drawing\, having my first solo show\, “A Sense of Place\,” at the Edward Hopper House (now Museum) in Nyack\, NY in 1993. Following this successful show\, I became a founding member of the cooperative Piermont (NY) Flywheel Gallery where I exhibited for a number of years before eventual representation by the Allen Sheppard Gallery in Piermont and New York City’s Chelsea arts district. There were four successful solo exhibits with this gallery. \nSince then\, I have exhibited in many juried (including some jurists of note)\, group and solo shows in and around NYC\, including at the annual national juried show at the Rockport (MA) Art Association & Museum\, where I garnered a Gold Medal for Excellence in Painting.  Also among these shows was a regular showing of seven solo exhibitions at Chef Peter Kelley’s (Iron Chef winner) restaurant\, the Freelance Cafe in Piermont. I have also donated numerous works to various non-profit organizations’ fund raising efforts throughout the years\, and am a former Board member of the Edward Hopper House Museum. \n For the past 15 years\, another focus has been on large-scale graphic mural designs for many major institutions such as Columbia University\, New York Presbyterian Hospitals\, the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh\, Montefiore Medical Center\, and the Garden of Dreams Foundation of Madison Square Garden among others. These internationally award-winning graphic\, narrative works\, which often incorporate my fine art and photography\, can be seen at www.KimakDesign.com . \nBeginning in 2019\, I switched my long-time painting and drawing focus from works in pastel\, to larger pieces in acrylic on canvas. I focus on light and form\, using abstraction and realism in the Edward Hopper mold (among other influences – I am also a fan of Fairfield porter\, Richard Diebenkorn\, etc..) to express my feelings about the world around me\, focusing on beauty in the play of light on what is\, often times\, seemingly ordinary subject matter. Indeed\, a 2019 solo show at the ArtSuite Gallery in Piermont\, NY was entitled “Explorations in Light and Form.” I am scheduled for inclusion in a group show later this year at the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson\, NY. My work can also be currently viewed at Ned Kelly and Company in Piermont and on my website at JamesKimakFineArt.com \nMy wish is that any “art statement” I can make lies more concretely in the works themselves. I hope you enjoy viewing them. Please contact me\, or the staff at Roost\, if you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces.”~James \nExhibit may be viewed while dining at Roost Restaurant. Open @5 PM daily (except Tuesdays) or by appointment: 845-359-0258. \nPhoto Credit: Paul Undersinger \nSELECTED EXHIBITIONS \nSolo Exhibitions: \n*  Roost@Union Arts Center (Gallery 1 )\, Sparkill\, NY.  April 7 through June\, 2021 \n*  ArtSuite NY Gallery\, Piermont\, NY  “Explorations in Light And Form\,” September 14 – November 2\, 2019. SUMMARY:Norman Galinsky: “Contemplating Presence”
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nClosing Reception: March 21\, 2021 | More Info \nThrough Early April 2021 \n\nAbove image: “Spiral Cluster”  72”x 72”  2019 \nGallery Hours by Appointment. Call 845-359-0258 \nArt may also be viewed during Roost Restaurant’s hours of operation\, Wednesday through Monday (Closed Tuesday). Doors open @ 5 PM. \nNorman Galinsky captures the essence of energy in his art\, creating works that depict stillness in motion.  \nHis work represents the relationship between the energetic and quantum nature of reality and the spiritual essence embodied by art. He believes that art expression is energy itself\, an aspect of what the Chinese term Qi. Using a vocabulary of abstract geometric forms and free-hand applied marks\, patterns are developed that contain energy and facilitate its flow. These compositions are created through an intuitive\, meditative approach\, a practice of focused attention and intention. The images suggest emissions of waves and particles\, vibratory fields\, and networks. Often sacred geometric shapes and proportions and converging circular forms are used to generate a central focus—a “stillpoint”—that inspires contemplation.  \nThis exhibition is being presented in Gallery Two. \n\n\nAbout The Artist\n\n\nAfter an early career in industry—in applied research in chemical engineering\, Norman Galinsky turned fully to art\, earning an MFA degree from Columbia University. At Columbia\, he studied painting with Philip Guston\, Jack Tworkov\, and Stamos\, and printmaking with Bob Blackburn and Tony Harrison. He also studied with George Tooker and Will Barnet at the Art Students League\, and with Henry Pearson at the New School. Artists Stephen Greene and Richard Pousette-Dart were friends and mentors. \nGalinsky’s art has also been inspired and informed by his background in science and engineering\, by his ongoing interest and study of meditative and energy-healing disciplines and consciousness\, as well as by his more than 35-year study\, practice\, and teaching of Chinese martial and healing arts\, including Taiji Quan and qigong. He sees his work as related to the emerging field of “NeuroArts\,” the science of how art measurably changes the brain and the body to promote health and well-being. \nNorman Galinsky had his first exhibit in New York City in 1977 at the Jock Truman Gallery (formerly The Betty Parsons Gallery) and has been exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions ever since. His art is represented in numerous private and corporate collections\, including IBM\, Exxon-Mobil\, The Four Seasons Hotels\, Bank of America\, Astra Merck\, Novartis\, and Pepsico\, among others. \nVisit Norman’s website:  www.normangalinsky.com

D.\, 1968 \nTom Artin is a photographer living in Rockland County\, New York. His subjects range from landscapes\, seascapes and cityscapes to portraits\, florals and still lifes.  Artin began taking\, developing\, and printing images in the early 1950s.  \nThe majority of Artin’s photographs originate as medium format images shot on film with vintage Rolleiflexes and a Hasselblad\, though he also works with 4”x5” and 8”x10” view cameras.  In recent years\, he has added digital cameras to his toolbox\, specifically several Sony cameras outfitted with Carl Zeiss lenses.  In the digital lightroom\, he processes images scanned from negatives and transparencies in Photoshop and prints on Hahnemühle water-color type papers via Conetech Piezography\, a Quad-tone digital black and white printing process developed for the Epson inkjet printers. \nIn the 1950’s Artin outfitted his own dedicated darkroom at home and devoted his high school senior chemistry project to the chemistry of photography\, which included fabricating and printing on his own photographic paper.  In 1956\, he worked as photographic assistant to William Vandivert\, staff photographer for Life and Time magazines\, and one of the founders of Magnum.  Tom’s photographic career ran in parallel with a career as medieval scholar and college teacher\, which he left in 1979 to pursue yet a third a career as a professional jazz musician.  \nIn recent decades\, Artin’s work has been primarily in the fine-art category\, though he has done fashion and other commercial photography for both print and the internet.  Artin’s studio\, in Sparkill\, NY\, serves also as his lightroom.  His images and fine art posters are sold world-wide. SUMMARY:Drawing With Fire (Quincy Hall)
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, August 1\, 5:00 – 7:00PM | More Info \nThrough Friday\, September 27\, 2019 \n\nThis series of drawings was begun during an Artist Fellowship at the Creative Glass Center of America\, Wheaton Arts Center in 2014. The most recent edition was created at Urban Glass in Brooklyn\, NY in 2019. \nIn this body of work I work directly on paper\, drawing with molten glass. As in all work with hot glass\, the artist must work quickly- almost as if it were a dance. The resulting imagery reflects this sense of immediacy\, creating gestural marks that reflect the quality of molten glass itself. \n \n \n\n\nAbout The Artist\n\n\nJoan Harmon received her Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts from the California College of Art where she began working in hot glass and worked directly with William Morris and Dale Chihuly at Pilchuck Glass School\, Stanwood\, Washington in its early years. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Sculpture from Rutgers University. Harmon has received numerous grants and fellowships including an Honorarium from Burning Man in 2017. She is a sculptor and multimedia artist who works in a variety of media including cast cement\, wood\, fired clay\, glass and wax and sometimes incorporating sound and light.

SUMMARY:Tchaikovsky. Album Op. 72 -By Asiya Korepanova
DESCRIPTION:About The Exhibit\n\nClosing Reception: TBD \nThrough January 25\, 2019 \n\nTchaikovsky. Album Op. 72: by Asiya Korepanova \nThis exhibition is by the illustrious Russian pianist\, Asiya Korepanova. It showcases 18 works in mixed media\, all of which are inspired by Tchaikovsky’s last piano work\, “Morceaux opus 72.” The collection represents impressions\, images\, and feelings based on the work. The Tchaikovsky work struck Asiya\, because “you can hear sadness written in a major key\,” she says. \nThe Album Op. 72 was originally issued in 2010\, and is dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The premiere performance took place in Moscow’s International House of Music on October 28\, 2010. \nClick below to learn more and read her corresponding poems that go along with these drawings: \nhttps://www.asiyakorepanova.com/tchaikovsky-album-op-72 \nAsiya Korepanova is a creative force. Her virtuosity as a pianist is best defined by a supreme level of technical aptitude\, combined with her acutely individualized musical interpretations. A broad and unique artist\, she expresses herself through several mediums; transcription\, visual arts\, poetry and composition. Through exploring and combining these art forms\, Asiya continually rediscovers new ways to apply her creativity. Having an extensive piano repertoire\, she is most fond of performing entire piano cycles. She is currently the only pianist to perform the complete 24 Franz Liszt Etudes at the same recital\, a collection of pieces notorious for their prowess and dexterity\, each etude effectively serving as a symphonic poem within itself. \nLearn more here: https://www.asiyakorepanova.com/about \n\n\nAbout The Artist\n\n\nPhoto by Emil Matveev
