Gallery 1: Joyce Byrnes: Reflecting Nature

Joyce Byrnes is a pastel artist and instructor living in Rockland County, NY. In her paintings, she seeks to convey the light, color and textures she observes in nature. After earning a degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Binghamton, Joyce worked in diverse fields such as pension plan management and museum administration. Her art education includes coursework at SUNY Binghamton, the Rockland Center for the Arts, the Pastel Society of America, and the Art Students League in New York. She currently teaches a class in Pastel Painting at the Clarkstown Community Learning Center in Congers, NY.

Gallery 2: Dan Lukens: Nurtured by Nature

With a focus on local themes, Dan Lukens’ work is an ode to the familiar places characteristic of his home in the lower Hudson Valley. A life-long Rockland native, Dan earned his BFA from Purchase College art school in 1979 though drawing and painting have been a passion since early childhood.

Artist’s statement: The beauty in the world and the good in it, are in the things we choose to see, appreciate and find value in. In exploring the often overlooked aspects of daily life, I find the points of reflection that are my inspiration.
