About The Artist

Eileen Karakashian received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1994 from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, majoring in Advertising Design. Since graduation she was an art director in advertising, producing both national TV and print campaigns. Her work has been featured in Adweek and Advertising Age magazine. She continued her fine art studies at the Art Students League in NYC, concentrating on painting, design, color, composition and collage.

Today, Karakashian makes paintings and mixed media artworks. By emphasising aesthetics, Eileen tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based only on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations. Her paintings are based on formal associations which open a unique poetic vein.

Multilayered images arise in which the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality is questioned. By rejecting an objective truth and global cultural narratives, she creates with daily, recognizable elements, an unprecedented situation in which the viewer is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his biased position.
