Oil Paintings by Dan Lukens
A Rockland native, Dan Lukens attended the SUNY Purchase College art school and earned his BFA in visual arts in 1979. Drawing and painting, however, have been a passion for Lukens since early childhood.
With a focus on local themes, Lukens’ work is an ode to the familiar places characteristic of his home in Orangetown, New York.
Artist’s statement: The beauty in the world and the good in it, are in the things we choose to see, appreciate and find value in. And, in exploring the often overlooked aspects of daily life, I find the points of reflection that are my inspiration.
A former not-for-profit executive, Lukens also worked with people with disabilities supporting them to pursue their artistic and literary pursuits.
Exhibition credits include the Purchase College Visual Arts Gallery and the Neuberger Museum. In more recent years, exhibitions include the Corner Frame Shop, the Darvin Gallery, Ned Kelly and Company, the Volition Gallery, the Denis P. McHugh Piermont Library, the Renaissance Gallery and the Pride Show at the Rockland Center for the Arts, where Lukens has been a regular participant since 2014 and the featured artist in 2016. Recent paintings have also been included in the Rockland Center for the Arts members’ shows and in exhibits hosted by the Arts Council of Rockland.
The (RBA) Rockland Business Association’s Membership Directory has featured Lukens’ work on its cover in 2020 and 2021.
